Historic Old Northeast
The Historic Old Northeast neighborhood is a coveted residential community, with its old northeast-style homes and streets in close proximity to bustling downtown St. Petersburg. Top-rated restaurants, museums, shops and entertainment are close-by and visited frequently by Historic Old Northeast residents who desire the excitement of downtown but who wish to live in a peaceful established neighborhood.
Waterfront green space, brick streets and alleys, hexagon block sidewalks, mature trees, and many welcoming front porches characterize the neighborhood. Historic Old Northeast has been praised and recognized as a top neighborhood by several publications and shows because of its charming neighborhood features, walkability, bountiful eye-catching gardening, and its diversity of architectural styles of meticulously restored homes, including Dutch Colonial, Prairie, Tudor, Colonial Revival, and Spanish.
The Neighborhood was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, giving the community a great sense of pride, as well as protections to preserve its historic charm. Preserving and protecting this unique sense of place is a primary charge of an active neighborhood association (HONNA – Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association), which also provides updated information and hosts a multitude of meetings and events for residents and other neighborhood fans.
